A little help with 'The Guide' please!

Post by mac.hawk » 01 Jul 2014, 22:55

The intention today was to walk 'The Challenge', unfortunately engineering problems along the rail line proved that to be impossible, the rail services were so badly disrupted I had to abandon the idea.

As previously detailed I did the whole route on 07/06/2014 but I'm niggled by the waymarker post between (near) High Birkwith and God's Bridge that has lost it's 'fingers/arms' - the photo shows the waymarker post pre-amputation!

I've notified the '3 Peaks Ranger' of this but I'd be very grateful that, if you pass that way, if you could let me know the current state of the waymarker post please.

Whilst I like to update 'The Guide' at least on a monthly basis (i.e. by re-walking the entire route), personal commitments in the rest of July look like I may struggle with that.

Thanks

Just realised it was the 1st of June that I walked it. It was "Armless" then.

I'm very happy to report that Trish from Settle emailed me yesterday to say she & a friend completed the challenge on Sunday 13th July (very well done), found 'The Guide' helpful (thank you) and that the 'arms' on the waymarker post are still missing (fantastic we have an update, not so good the amputation is still evident).

Hi

Is it possible to please get a detailed route map, preferably avoiding the boggy parts? Is it available to download here as part of the guide?

Thank you

You need to email a request to the email address given in the 'October Revision of 'The Guide'' posting in the Forum and although this is does not include a map it gives full text instructions to the route that can be easily identified on the OS or Harvey's maps.

5th December 2014 update.

The waymaker post had been replaced but it's been snapped at it's base and currently lays on the floor.

I've notified the 3 Peaks Ranger by email.
