More paviing on Whernside!

Post by mac.hawk » 10 Aug 2013, 21:29

Having traversed the summit plateau of Whernside today (not on a 3 Peaker I hasten to add) it's clear that the path from a little west of Cable Rake to Cable Rake Top is going to be flagged soon. All the stone flags are laying in wait adjacent the footpath.

Unfortunately another inevitable necessity due the the sheer volume of traffic and the serious erosion of the footpath.

How did they get those heavy slabs up there? I assume perhaps they dropped them from a helicopter? I took some pictures. It's a shame we can't post pictures on this forum.

I was up there on 10/8/13 as well and noticed the flags were coming soon. Having been back again on Sunday 22/6/14 they were all laid, and whilst not exactly visually pleasing they do make for good progress.

They got them up via a trailer on the back of a quad bike, apparently for access the YDNPA dismantled part of a wall on the Kingsdale side of the mountain and rebuilt it once all the flagstones were on the summit (as for photos, you can now upload jpeg pics onto the forum).
