Best up to date guide

Post by hennypenny » 19 Jul 2013, 15:51

I'll be doing the 3 peaks for the first time with my 13 yr old son in August. We have never done any walking before, but consider ourselves to be reasonably fit, so we should be able to get round within the 12 hour mark, if we don't take the wrong turn. I have studied the route online and have a rough idea of the route to take. Would a guide be useful and is so, which is the best up to date guide. I understand there is now a new route from Pen-y-Ghent to Whernside which avoids the boggy area. Is there a guide that includes this updated path?

Won't comment on 'The Best' but 'The Guide' (as available via this Forum) is as up to date as can be (currently in it's December 2014 version).

I would also refer you to the post viewtopic.php?f=4&t=69 on this Forum as it contains comments/advice regarding undertaking the challenge with a minor.
