Merrel Hiking Shoes

Post by proteus05 » 09 Jun 2013, 23:55

Hey everyone,

I have a pair of Merrel hiking shoes

that I was planning on using for this 3 peak challenge. Does this sound okay or would you strongly recommend boots?

Personally I prefer boots. But plenty of people wear these shoes. They would only be more of a problem in wet weather when your feet might be more likely to get wet.
As long as they are broken in, and you've done a fair few miles in them before you start is the main thing.

Yeah I also had bought these for Hiking but I have never used them. Hoping to use them soon in near future but recently I have to purchase the pattern leggings and tank tops for my workouts. It will be quite helpful if you can suggest any good place to buy that at inexpensive rates.

The main reason why you need shoes is to protect your feet from rocks and debris on the trail. Hiking footwear should also have good grip, keep your feet dry, and be light enough to move easily. Many Appalachian Trail through-hikers use trail running shoes. So you don't need hiking boots, maybe.

Hey there,

The shoes look really awesome and I saw the rating and comments on the shoes and all are super fine. The shoes have 4.9 rating, and it is on Amazon so for sure your experience would also freat like rating. Please share your experience with it. I'm also planning to buy. Please share your experience with us. Thanks!

Actually the shoes currently (last day of March 2019) have a rating of 4.4, not 4.9, on Amazon UK (where the initial posting link is to) and personally I'm with Three Peaks on this as I much prefer a walking/hiking boot to a shoe.

I must say that there are different brands for normal hiking, but you must be precise in your details before buying. There are many good places to buy the perfect hiking shoes.
It should be noted that your hiking shoes must be strong enough to prevent you from stones and sharp edges.
Thanks!!

Merrill “half or mid-boots” always do the trick for me. Had a few pairs and walked the 3 peaks 10+ times in them. They are vey light weight but sturdy enough and add better ankle protection than a walking shoe (which I do not think ideal). Each to their own but the Merrill half boots are more comfortable than a leather/heavy boot. I bought two pairs from the sports-shoes website having known my size from previous Merrill products. Two pairs for almost half the price of many retailers. Proved to be great buy. Enjoy the challenge. Take plenty of layers and liquids!
