'The Guide' - an enforced hiatus!

It is with great regret that I have to announce that due to a foot injury updates to 'The Guide' beyond the January 2015 version are unlikely in the immediate future. Of course the route of 'The Challenge' varies little over the years but the YDNPA maintain the footpaths/route and do make changes fr...

Re: Three Peaks Souvenir Map

Firstly, I like the map. If you're thinking of retailing it I think it needs a few extra bits and bobs. I'd suggest spot height-ing each peak and maybe a few others in the area covered. It would be a good idea to identify Ribblehead and Chapel le Dale too (not everyone starts/finishes at Horton). If...

Re: The 3 Peaks Challenge in the Winter Months

Many congratulations for getting round in a little over 10 hours, especially in winter and via 'The Bog'. I would also congratulate you in going well equipped, most important if undertaking the challenge in the winter months. Just to clarify something in your entry that people who are not familiar w...

Re: A little help with 'The Guide' please!

5th December 2014 update.

The waymaker post had been replaced but it's been snapped at it's base and currently lays on the floor.

I've notified the 3 Peaks Ranger by email.

Re: 3 Peaks Challenge in December - War stories? Tips?

Farcelt gives good advice as on the 7th December (AK1's projected date) there are a touch over seven and a half hours between sunrise & sunset (8.12 to 15.49) plus an additional 40 minutes of twilight time at each end of the day. An early start would be far more preferable to a late finish. I'd also...

The 3 Peaks Challenge in the Winter Months

The following is a direct 'lift' from the October version of ' The Guide ' From the end of October to mid-February the hours of daylight (sunrise to sunset) are less than 10 hours. Should you undertake ‘The Challenge’ within these periods it would seem to be common sense that unless you can confiden...

Re: A little help with 'The Guide' please!

You need to email a request to the email address given in the 'October Revision of 'The Guide'' posting in the Forum and although this is does not include a map it gives full text instructions to the route that can be easily identified on the OS or Harvey's maps.

Re: National three peaks vs Yorkshire three peaks

Everything you need to know about kit, maps, guide, food etc is covered in 'The Guide'. Simply email me a request to the usual email address. I've never done the National 3 Peaker but I believe they both more or less cover the same amount of walking mileage, but obviously the Yorkshire one is a cont...
