Re: Latest news 24.07.2015

Was up in the area again today and there's been no movement on the flagging on Whernside, the flags are still laying adjacent the path.

More accomodation in Horton

The Golden Lion pub/hotel in Horton seems to have successfully applied to build an extra detached accommodation unit that looks like it's just waiting for the legal system to process before building begins. You'll find details on the second page two of the following link. http://www.yorkshiredales.o...

Re: Horton-Pen y Ghent-Ribblehead hike today

The 3 Peaks Ranger emailed me yesterday (14.09.2015) to advise me that the stile with gate atop will shortly be replaced by a 'pedestrian gate'.

Nights drawing in

3 incidents in the last week where the Mountain Rescue team have been called out to help hikers struggling in the failing light - one as early as 19.09. As a precaution please pack a torch of some sort if you're going to be out around/after sunset. See http://www.thetimeandplace.info/uk#.VfCF15dZGdU...

Re: Walking the Yorkshire 3 peaks question

It's an 'after the event' comment I'm afraid. Found an old post at http://www.3peakswalks.co.uk/walks/yorkshire/cafe.pdf that shows the 'rescue service' was/is 'apparently' currently not available. Personally I've never used - or felt the need to use - the cafe's 'clocking in/out' service. but for a...

Ribblehead Railway Station approach track

For those that are interested in such things, the Ribblehead Railway Station approach track (i.e. the track from the Station Inn to the railway station itself) has been resurfaced and no longer looks like the face of the Moon (craters all over the place).

Re: Latest news 24.07.2015

Yes. yes ................ but I'm not sure how many more steps these old knees can take in a day!! And below is part of a reply I've had from the 3 Peaks Park Ranger.............. 'Flagging – (in an) ideal world we would have a nice grassy path, the sun would shine on it to dry it out, people would ...

Late July 2015 version of 'The Guide'

The late July 2015 version of 'The Guide' is now available. Re-walked the entire route in the last three week period (Ribblehead to Horton over W & I today - 24.07.2015) with a minor amendment to the early July version - the signage on the small vertical stone at Swine Tail (Ingleborough) has been v...

Re: Hi-Vis Paint on Pen y Ghent

Well, I'd probably agree with you (and as 'The Moth' says, 'it's hardly unclear up there') but I suppose one man's graffiti is another man's waymarker.

Mind you, I've never heard of anyone 'getting lost' on the ascent/descent of Pen y ghent!
