Re: Hi-Vis Paint on Pen y Ghent

These are the two Hi-Vis paint direction markers at the top of the upper section of the 'scrambley' bit on the ascent of Pen y Ghent. To be honest once you reach the first direction marker you could go left or right really. (Click on the picture to see it full frame).

Philpin Farm - Chapel le Dale

There are developments ahead at Philpin Farm (Chapel le Dale) with planning application approved for the creation of a 'seasonal' campsite, this includes further development of the current Snack Bar Barn and adjacent building to increase it's facilities to service the camp site (showers, extra toile...

Re: Amended (late) April 2015 versions of 'The Guide'

It's been reported to me today that there is now new signage on the small pillar indicating the route to Horton (my thanks go to Marnie for this information).

And having gone up yesterday (4th June 2015) here's the new signage - it only appears on the 'going up' side of the pillar.

Re: Hi-Vis Paint on Pen y Ghent

Well, until I get up there and have a look for myself I'll refrain from making too much of a comment but I suppose if you were unfamiliar with the route and in a heavy mist some sort of indication where to head might be useful (I may be over-egging it with 'a trail of') - I just don't know until I g...

Hi-Vis Paint on Pen y Ghent

I've had a recent email from a contact (thanks Marnie) who reports that the initial 'scramble' bit up Pen y Ghent (in Section 03 of the route guide from Horton) now has a trail of Hi-Vis yellow paint to indicate the way. Can't get up there till early June myself so if anyone could provide a photo be...

Re: Starting Point

Hi Geoff, went past the Station Inn + the Blea Moor/Gauber Road junction today at approx 3pm and there were cars parked all over the place, including a couple on the little bit of gravel opposite the pub and six (I estimated correct) in the small parking place near the cattle grid.

'The Guide', The Website & the Forum

As you might expect I get a regular number of email requests for copies of the latest version of 'The Guide'. A number of these requests assume that the Website & Forum are administered by myself (Mac.Hawk). Just to make things very clear I want to make it plain that I do not administer the website ...

Amended (late) April 2015 versions of 'The Guide'

Re-walked the whole route over the 18th & 24th of April & the amended (late) April 2015 versions of 'The Guide' are now available. They contain minor changes to the January 2015 version - a broken waymarker post near High Birkwith has been replaced (many thanks Manny for this information) and the YD...

Re: Starting Point

Hi Geoff, you can't generally park on the road immediately by the pub, the road's not wide enough to park on. However, a little way beyond the pub (100 yards or so), heading towards the Blea Moor/Gauber road T-junction and just after a cattle grid is a parking space on the right for about half a doz...
