Over PyG to complete the circle

Today's hike took me from Horton Rly Station to Ribblehead Rly station over the 3 Peaks route avoiding 'The Bog' thus completing the 3 Peaks route over the last couple or so weeks. There are a couple of minor improvements along the route that unless you're familiar with it you'll probably not notice...

More surfacing news!

Today it was the Whernside leg from Ribblehead which reveals a substantial improvement underfoot on 2 sections of the walk. Firstly the rise up Slack Hill (a little way after passing the aqueduct) up to the stile that takes you NW to Grain Head, which had previously been very badly rutted and very b...

More Flagging!

It's been a while since my hiking feet took me over the 3 Peaks summits but yesterday I did the Chapel le Dale to Horton section over Ingleborough and can report that the section at the immediate end of the 'staircase' to the end of Swine Tail (to where the path veers right to access the summit plat...

'Traffic'

Was at Ribblehead today (non-hiking day) between 11a.m & 12 noon and the 3 Peaks Challenge 'traffic' coming from Horton was phenomenal - serious nose to tail stuff. I, and various others, have said it before but just to reiterate that if you're attempting the 'traditional' route from Horton on any g...

May 2016 edition of 'The Guide'

The May 2016 edition of 'The Guide' simply reflects the changes to the summer rail timetable on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line and the disruption from the Carlisle end of the rail line north of Appleby due to ongoing engineering works. There are no changes to the route guide. 'The Guide' is currentl...

Re: CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP/ ADVISE?

My initial advice is to email me for a copy of 'The Guide' as it contains a plethora of information & advice - it's not just a 'follow the wall on the right, turn left at the next gate etc' type route guide. Then if there's anything that you can think of that I've missed in 'The Guide' ask again in ...

Re: Variation on a theme

Having done both I have to say I personally found the route from Ribblehead harder than the one from Horton. I found it a serious struggle up Whernside - in reflection I think it's because there's no respite flat section once you leave Bruntscar, it's all up, and now that it's even more 'stepped' I ...

Day Ranger Ticket prices reduced - Sept 2016 update: offer available for the forseeable future

Northern (Rail) have just announced a reduction in their Leeds/Bradford-Settle-Carlisle day ranger tickets. Effective from Sunday 15th of May 2016 (and expected to run until the engineering works north of Appleby are completed) the ticket is reduced to £15 and railcards do apply (i.e. with a railcar...
