It's here! The REAL way avoiding the bog

Went across my Alternative Way Avoiding The Bog yesterday and found a planning application nailed to the waymarker post at Tarn Bar for the YDNPA to be given permission for the 'creation of two sections of engineered footpath with one timber footbridge'. You can find details of this at http://www.yo...

Re: 3 Peaks Challenge from Ingleton

Yes I'd say it adds about an extra 4-ish miles to the usual route, it would probably take me an extra hour and a half as whilst you don't have the steep up or down of Whernside you do have to allow for fatigue in the extra 4+ miles at the end of 25+ mile hike. It all depends on your usual walking ra...

Re: 3 Peaks Challenge from Ingleton

A quick route plan on Memory Map using a route that starts at the YDNP car park in Ingleton, takes Oddies Lane to the camp site at Beezley's , turns left then rises Twisleton Scar End to Ewe's Top then simply follows the wall on the left across West Fell to Whernside summit. Thereafter the usual rou...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Went over today and it is truly awful, not only is the bog getting wider and wider the walkways (I aren't calling them footpaths!) are a mud bath too.

Re: Childrens Activities

Yet another thought, depending on the age of the kids, Settle has a nice playground adjacent Booth's supermarket and also a swimming pool where the main road crosses the river. The Museum of North Craven Life is situated at The Folly, towards the back of the town.

Re: Fine Dining

The Black Horse pub in Giggleswick does rather wonderful (and large portioned) food. Limited menu, not really fine dining, but really good pub grub - and the beers good too.

Re: 3 peaks challenge - SAT 29TH SEPTEMBER 2012

I think you need to be a bit more specific as to what your aims are. Is it just to get around? Is it to do it in a specific time? Are you starting from Horton? What time are you looking to start at? Have you experience of such a long walk? What age are you - might seem irrelevant but if you're two f...

Re: Yorkshire 3 Peaks - Solo

It's not that poorly signposted where all the Rights of Way occur and once you're on the main trek up/down Pen y Ghent, Whernside & Ingleborough it's hard to see how anyone with a bit of common sense could go wrong even in poor weather. However, as three peaks say's, the route across Todber Moss/Bla...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Did the challenge again on 01 Oct 2011 and after a week of unusually dry and sunny weather the bog was still pretty awful with wide detours needed in 5 or 6 places.

Re: Childrens Activities

Another thought is doing the Ingleton Waterfalls walk. Four and a half miles of not too taxing walking and between the Pecca & Beezley Falls, just below Twistleton Scar End you'll find a strategically placed Ice-Cream van, yeah!!!!
