Re: 3 peaks challenge - SAT 29TH SEPTEMBER 2012

I think you need to be a bit more specific as to what your aims are. Is it just to get around? Is it to do it in a specific time? Are you starting from Horton? What time are you looking to start at? Have you experience of such a long walk? What age are you - might seem irrelevant but if you're two f...

Re: Yorkshire 3 Peaks - Solo

It's not that poorly signposted where all the Rights of Way occur and once you're on the main trek up/down Pen y Ghent, Whernside & Ingleborough it's hard to see how anyone with a bit of common sense could go wrong even in poor weather. However, as three peaks say's, the route across Todber Moss/Bla...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Did the challenge again on 01 Oct 2011 and after a week of unusually dry and sunny weather the bog was still pretty awful with wide detours needed in 5 or 6 places.

Re: Childrens Activities

Another thought is doing the Ingleton Waterfalls walk. Four and a half miles of not too taxing walking and between the Pecca & Beezley Falls, just below Twistleton Scar End you'll find a strategically placed Ice-Cream van, yeah!!!!

Re: access to Y3P during Red Cross charity event 16/7/11

You'll be fine, the Red Cross may want to check the registered members of your team are still together for safety purposes at check points along the route (some organised walks do, others don't) but the route is available to all regardless of what organised (usually charity) walk is happening on any...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Well I went over last Saturday (11/06/2011) and it was pretty much a doddle, the usual farce over Todber & Black Dub Moss but certainly nothing to fret over. Went across today (18/06/2011) and in ten years+ of walking the area I've never seen it boggier, from leaving Pen-y-ghent Side to the reaching...

Re: How long does it really take?

In response to Paul R, the guide is done but it is based on my 2010 trek. THE YDNP have lately been replacing the stiles en-route with gates, along with improvements along the route from Whernside to Bruntscar. I'm in the process of re-walking the entire route to update the guide to included these c...

Re: Childrens Activities

You can do a nice very short walk from Horton along the river Ribble taking the west bank downstream from the footbridge at Horton, the first field usually has sheep and chickens roaming freely in it, to the footbridge before Craghill Farm and then return to Horton Bridge and visit the cafe for ice-...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

It's Todber Moss & (in particular) Black Dubb Moss that are the problems where the route can be 100ft+ wide in places. Crossing the stream at Black Bubb Moss is probably the most difficult bit in anything other than the driest of weather. I've posted a route on the Alternative Route Around the Bog t...
