Re: First Time 3 Peaks

All the advice you could ever need is in the ' Latest Revision of the Guide ' page in the Forum. Simply email the address as indicated in the article. Is it do-able late September? It all depends on your expected walking speed. The back end of September gives an approximate 12 hour time from sunrise...

Re: It's coming! The REAL way avoiding the bog

I'm told the work has already started and that the top layer of grass etc has been removed and the base layer is now going down (many thanks to Nick S for this information).

Re: is it drying up

It's always do-able in 12 hours or less but it all depends on your health, level of fitness, the weather, what your expectations are, your guide (in paper or in person) or ability to read the map, and if you are adequately prepared. On the 25th of August, if you're healthy, have some experience of h...

Re: is it drying up

Hi Michelle, you can get maps at just about any local book shop, they may need to order them in for you or at any numbers of outlets if you order online. The Ordnance Survey OL2 map Yorkshire Dales South & West or the Harvey's Superwalker - Yorkshire Dales - The Three Peaks are the maps you need. Yo...

Re: is it drying up

I've been across the routes from P Y G summit to High Birkwith today, yup all of the main ones, and the route across Todber & Black Dubb Moss still requires wide detours. The main route is pretty much OK but the Moss's are still incredibly moist - it's not just about the bog, you have to bear in min...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Yes funkyrabbit , did the ' Alternative ' last Friday and whilst it's currently quite mushy over Whitber Hill and down towards Sell Gill Holes and the Pennine & Ribble Ways it is, in my opinion, currently a better option than traversing the bog - Pennine or Ribble way to Overground? You'll be fine o...

Re: recording your challenge at the Cafe problem

To be honest I wouldn't bother. I've done the challenge a dozen times and have yet to log in/out at the PyG Cafe, I don't really see what the point is. You know of your achievement, your fellow walkers know it so what's the problem? If you feel you really do need certificates try the web page from t...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Went across 22nd April and it was truly awful, thought last year I'd never seen it worse but on this occasion it was even worse than that , water and bog from Pen-y-Gent Side to Over Ground with wide detours needed virtually everywhere and sooooo many people going wider and wider.................

It's here! The REAL way avoiding the bog

Went across my Alternative Way Avoiding The Bog yesterday and found a planning application nailed to the waymarker post at Tarn Bar for the YDNPA to be given permission for the 'creation of two sections of engineered footpath with one timber footbridge'. You can find details of this at http://www.yo...
