Re: 2014 - 3 Peaks Events

Horton was packed on Sunday 22nd June. Rubbish everywhere - not really a pretty sight unfortunately. Penyghent summit was shocking as well. The aftermath of these charity events seems to cause untold problems.

It's the same in Fort William, Wasdale, Borrowdale etc as well at this time of year.

Re: Do the charities use the "non-boggy" route

I dont know but what is certain is that their competitors appear to use the entire route as one big dumping ground. Did the route on Sunday 22nd June the day after a few big charity walks and the amount of litter was disgraceful. Especially the summit of Penyghent which was a tip. Worthy causes - ve...

Re: Second Challenge and it still hurts!

Agree that timing is irrelevant - even if you take longer than 12 hours you haven't failed. As long as you do the 3 of them in a single walk you have every right to be proud of yourself. In 1996 it took me 7 hours. I've never come close to that again but I still LOVE the walk. On Sunday 22/6/14 - my...

Re: How boggy is the bog?

Now the new path is there the bog should no longer be an issue. Yet was there on Sunday 22/6/14 and there were STILL people taking the original route. Even with that section being my last (having started at Ribblehead) it was still so pleasant to walk on with bone dry boots!

Re: More paviing on Whernside!

I was up there on 10/8/13 as well and noticed the flags were coming soon. Having been back again on Sunday 22/6/14 they were all laid, and whilst not exactly visually pleasing they do make for good progress.

Re: Starting Point

Well said - the train option is always handy to bear in mind, even after all 3 of them. Next year (or even later this year - who knows!) I think I'll stick with Ribblehead.

Starting Point

Hello Everyone - Am new to the board although not the 3 peaks themselves. Just completed the circuit for the 14th time on Sunday 22nd June. The previous 13 times I went from Horton on the usual circuit. But this time I started from Ribblehead and climbed Whernside first. I have to say that this was ...

Re: Litter

Totally agree with you. The state of the summit of Penyghent on Sunday 22/6/14 was nothing short of disgraceful. I have never seen anything like it in 16 visits. In fact it was probably the worst litter I have EVER seen - and have been on Helvellyn, Scafell Pike, Great Gable etc on Bank Holidays in ...
