Re: The 3 Peaks Challenge in the Winter Months

To do it at this time of year twice in 11 days is a great achievement especially with the bad weather and limited hours of daylight so well done to you. Took me just over 10 hours in June so to do that in December is very impressive.

Re: Any advice for a 3 peaks dropout please!

Totally agree that you dont need to be guided round this route. It's as clear as a road all the way round.

Also the ability to read a map is the most important and a bit of training beforehand always helps.

Have always found May or June or September the best time of year to do the walk.

Re: 19th July

Start early at Ribblehead and miss the crowds is the way to do it if you're not part of the charity event.

Have completed the walk 14 times but I found this to be an excellent guide. For anyone who wants to know the route then this guide is essential reading. It is simply superb.

Re: Clockwise or Anticlockwise?

Thanks Mac - it's always good to get someone else's take on it. Feel I should do it the 'other way' at least once!

Clockwise or Anticlockwise?

Have never done it clockwise before - am thinking about this for next time. For those who have done it both ways - which did you prefer / find easier and where did you start from. Am thinking of starting at The Hill Inn and climbing Whernside first and descending by the old route whilst I'm still fr...

Re: Rucksack size

The lighter the better. But if you're a solo walker you need something decent to carry your food and waterproofs etc. My normal 35L day sack is always enough for me.
