The whole route is on public rights of way, so you can take a dog on a lead and plenty of people do.

Its been really hot recently and a lot of people have struggled. Don't be so hard on yourselves. One thing immediately springs to mind - do a few short practice walks beforehand to test your equipment and legs. I think with rucksacks its the weight rather than the size thats important. I often use a larger rucksack because its got a frame and I find it more comfortable than some of the smaller day sacks. But its a personal choice.

That should be plenty big enough. You need a certain amount of stuff - particularly water if its hot. But try to travel as light as you can.

It depends what kind of phobia you have. Its not like some walks you could do that scare people who didn't realise they were afraid of heights. Mostly the walk feels safe from falling. That could be two circular walks both starting and ending in Horton, its easy to see the footpaths on the OS Map . But if its not too far for the first group I would consider following the three peaks route from the top of pen-y-ghent to Birkwith, then turning off that route and going to Selside. Fr...
