Variation on a theme

Having completed the 3 Peaks three times this year all in the conventional counter-clockwise direction (twice starting at Horton & once from Ribblehead) I thought I would go for an alternative route yesterday by climbing each peak in ascending height order. Setting off from Horton station climbed Pe...

Re: 3 Peaks Challenge in December - War stories? Tips?

Hi, I completed a solo nightime 3 peaks in September a couple of years ago on a night with a full moon which turned out to be very cloudy so very little moonlight to aid route finding. I had a head torch and because I am very familiar with the route, having completed I guess 50 plus circuits had no ...

Re: Clockwise or Anticlockwise?

Have mostly stuck to the anti clockwise route over the years starting from either Horton or Ribblehead. Have been round clockwise a couple of times, setting out from Horton with Ingleborough coming first so the steep descent presented no real problems. The ascent of Whernside from Chapel-le-Dale is ...

Re: Second Challenge and it still hurts!

Totally agree with all of the previous posts regarding starting points and times recorded for the walk. Since first completing the 3 peaks over 40 years ago aged 14 I have lost count of the number of successful circuits (and a few aborted attempts for various reasons) The main thing is to have a go ...

Re: Starting Point

Another advantage is that it provides a number of escape options in case of bad weather, inju...

Re: Fear of heights

If tackling the route anti-clockwise from Horton you face the ascent with the probably the most severe "scramble" on the final rock section of Penyghent where some walkers do need to use their hands in order to get up and over a short section of largish rocks but it is a short pull and then onto a g...

Hi, if you need a guide for your 3 Peaks Challenge I would be happy to guide your party round if you undertake the walk on a Saturday or Sunday. I have completed the walk numerous times over the last 40 years starting from various points and in both directions including a solo completion at night so...
