Re: The 3 Peaks Challenge in hot weather

Stop at regular intervals, and before each ascent to check everyone. Make a conscious decision if to procee...

Re: Weather conditions

Yes. See the posts about the new route off Pen-y-ghent to avoid the bog. Other than that, its not more dangerous unless you get caught out in the weather. Its easier to get lost and at this time of year theres less hours of daylight to correct any mistake. But don't panic - its still possible and sa...

Re: First Time 3 Peaks

Whernside boring?

Have you visited the limestone pavement at Twisleton Scar?
Dropped down into Kingsdale and ended up in a Dent pub?
Continued along the ridge and watched the sun setting?
Gone for a dip in the tarns?

12 hour challenge all well and good, but take time to stop and look around.

Re: Footwear

As you say the runners do it in trainers. I'd suggest changing footwear is a bad idea - its an endurance challenge and you don't want to be stopping to do this. If the weather is really good you might be ok in trainers, but for me boots are best every time.

Re: Knowing the right way to go

There will be quite a few folk around on Easter Saturday, but you can't set off on the assumption you can just follow others. The weather can close in an any time, and you can suddenly find yourself in some remote spots. If you are not experienced walkers and map readers then get yourself a three pe...

Re: Alternative Route around the Bog

I wouldn't go climbing into shake holes. But they are pretty easy to avoid. Just take some common sense with you.
